Church Staff: First Christian Church of Helena, Montana
As pastor of this caring congregation, I have been called to move the congregation into that deep, personal space with God and that broad, sacrificial space with neighbor. I am new to Helena and to First Christian Church, but I am not new to faith, prayer and practice. I have a certificate in Spiritual Direction from the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation in Bethesda, Maryland, and recently completed the Monk Co-hort program at St. Gertrude's Monastery in Cottonwood, Idaho. I enjoy preaching and teaching and pastoral care. For fun I take long drives with my husband John all over the state of Montana, I fix family meals for our children and grandchildren, I walk my daschund Dora, I sketch and paint and watch plays and I love the movie theater, complete with popcorn and a cherry Coke. Life is good.
"I have had the good fortune to be surrounded by wonderful musical influences most of my life. My mentors have been and still are: a loving mom and dad, who were church musicians; a host of great friends who share their extraordinary musical skills with instruments, in song writing & recording, playing in bands past and present, and in leading worship.....NOTE: I've always tried to surround myself with those better than I, in hopes some would rub off on me :-) But, most of all, my true inspiration has always been my heavenly Father, who is the giver of all things....the source of all ability and talent! I am blessed and I strive to be a blessing to others! For more information, check out www.stevebetz.com or contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org Steve ~"

First Christian Church, while founded on American soil in the early 1800s, is uniquely equipped to live up to its identity that it is a "movement for wholeness in a fragmented world." The denomination was born in the 1800s, and continues to be influenced by its founding ideals of our unity in Christ with openness and diversity in practice and belief.
The Bible is a living, breathing document that invites us to grow in our relationship with God as we listen to the stories, poetry and wisdom passed down from generation to generation. It has the power to nourish our souls and enrich our lives when we prayerfully study together. We understand and respect that Christians often have areas of disagreement regarding interpretation; we believe that open dialogue creates room for the Holy Spirit to guide our reading in fresh ways.
